About Me

I have always loved animals. As a child I spent a lot more time with animals than people. I lived on a farm in Sweden where I was the youngest child and the only girl, so in the company of animals I felt at home. There were livestock on the farm, horses, hunting dogs, feral cats and I had a plethora of small animals as pets.

From a young age, around 7, I would walk the dogs on my own and roam around the woods for hours with the hounds for company. Looking back I realise what a privilege it was to have this tremendous amount of freedom. By spending all this time with various animals I could observe their behaviour without anyone telling me what was right or wrong. I have always felt strongly that for animals to have a good life it is vital to look at life from their perspective, which is the core of my belief in my work with dogs.

After moving to England and starting a family I had a break from dogs. My children have inherited a love for animals and we have had every small pet imaginable. When my girls were old enough and I had the time, our first dog came into our life, Tis the working sheepdog. He was an amazing dog and it is thanks to Tis that I started helping dogs and people.

I began to see that so many of the dogs and owners I met on dog walks were far from relaxed and happy when out and about. I noticed straight away that there was a lack of communication between dog and owner.

I would stop and chat with owners and suggest a few simple techniques to change the dog’s behaviour, and to the owners surprise there would be an instant improvement. From these encounters, which were daily in their frequency, I learned that dogs and people really had very little understanding of each other’s perspective on life. Thus my work with helping people and dogs began.

My Method

I will help you to understand exactly why your dog behaves in the way it does. I will give you the confidence and understanding to communicate to your dog what it is that you want from them. This is all achieved by recognising the dogs body language and working with their natural instincts and behaviours to create a harmonious relationship. No force, tricks or gadgets are used in this approach.

It is all about working together and creating a bond based on trust. Simply put you can change any behaviour no matter how serious, by making small adjustments to the way you live and interact with your dog. Regardless of your dog's unwanted behaviour; agression, barking, hunting, no recall, seperation anxiety, etc. my training will help you to solve any behavioural issues.

Dog Behaviour Session

These are one to one sessions in your own home. This is where your dog will feel at home and I work with you and your dog to address all the issues you may have. I explain everything I do with your dog during the session, show you how to behave and communicate with your dog in a way which makes complete sense to the dog. It is all about being calm, confident and consistent around your dog to help your dog to start trusting you and to establish a true connection with your dog. I always start off the session in the home and then proceed to take the dog out for a walk.

A session usually takes 2-3 hours, but it's important to let the session take as long as it takes! Most people will only need one session, if however you would find it more comfortable to split a session into 2 or 3 occasions that is also fine. After the session I will send you a written report specific to you and your dog and everything that came up when I saw you. I also include general information which covers every aspect of everyday living with your dog and how to go about it in a way which makes sense to your dog. In addition provide unlimited phone and email support to my customers and for people who live near me they often come out for a walk with me and all the dogs.

Phone & Skype Support

Ideally I would like to see you and your dog in your own home environment, hands-on, practical support does work the best. However, there are situations where this isn't possible. I can then offer phone or Skype sessions. Skype is better because I can see what the dog is doing and can help you understand how to behave in a way which makes sense to you and your dog. I can also show you how to be effective when using body language when communicating with your dog.

Puppy Training

This is very similar to the dog behaviour session, usually though it is more beneficial to divide the training up into shorter sessions over a period of time. Typically the first session will help you to understand how to live with and communicate with your puppy in a way which makes sense to the puppy. Then the follow up sessions will include all the practical aspects of taking your puppy out to socialise with other dogs, letting them off the lead, recall, being calm around children, other pets and familiarised with farm animals, going walking around town and into cafe's and shops. This is not difficult and doesn't take long, provided you have established good communication with your puppy and of course can give the puppy the time it needs to be a well adjusted, happy and confident dog who feels safe with you and therefore trust you to make important decisions.

I will do a written report for you and the puppy, highlighting anything specific you need to focus on, session by session. I also include the general information which is useful for future reference and the same lifelong phone and email support applies to you and your puppy.
